Community Health

SAJIDA Foundation USA supported a community-based health program in Bugembe, Eastern Uganda, a region where poverty and health vulnerabilities are among the highest in the country. Uganda faces a severe shortage of healthcare providers, with just one doctor for every 25,000 people nationwide. To help address these challenges, SAJIDA introduced a four-tiered care model adapted from Bangladesh, involving community health workers, satellite clinics, telemedicine services, and referral partnerships. Enabled by digital health tracking, the model supports ongoing care and faster emergency response.

Access to Finance

To address the significant financing gap faced by Uganda’s micro and small enterprises, SAJIDA Foundation USA supported a financial inclusion program in the Busoga region—an area marked by high poverty and limited access to formal credit. The initiative targets the “missing middle”: entrepreneurs excluded from traditional microfinance services. Drawing on SAJIDA Bangladesh’s experience as the 7th largest microfinance institution in the country, the Uganda program offers two collateral-free loan products tailored to women and small business owners. The program is helping establish a sustainable model of financial inclusion that strengthens local enterprise and promotes long-term community resilience.

Economic Resilience

Sudin Shotta is advancing economic equity for Dalit women in Bangladesh by building an inclusive ecosystem that connects them with women-led enterprises. With support from SAJIDA Foundation USA, the program focuses on a community that faces systemic exclusion and limited livelihood opportunities—97% of Dalit women lack stable income despite having basic apparel skills. Sudin Shotta addresses this gap by providing technical training, workplace setup, and access to telemedicine and mental health support within community settings. It also links artisans to small businesses in fashion and handicrafts that need skilled labor. These business owners receive mentorship on strategy, marketing, and fundraising. Together, the model creates a sustainable system where both groups thrive through shared success.

Crisis Support

In times of national crisis, SAJIDA Foundation USA has been a critical partner in supporting Bangladesh through rapid and compassionate responses. During the devastating 2024 floods, which impacted millions across 12 districts, SF USA mobilized resources from the Bangladeshi diaspora to provide emergency rescue, medical care, food assistance, and livestock treatment. The support extended beyond immediate relief to include rehabilitation services such as housing repairs and livelihood recovery. In response to other national emergencies, including the student protest injuries, SF USA enabled medical aid, psychosocial support, and financial assistance—helping to strengthen both individual resilience and institutional care systems across the country.
